New move in fight against online abuse

POLICE targeting internet groomers have launched a new website to help combat the growing problem.

The new site also offers to help youngsters who are the victims of cyber-bullying.

Both grooming, where internet paedophiles search for youngsters through chat rooms, and internet bullying, are growing problems, which is why police teamed up with education chiefs at a launch at the University of Kent at Medway to promote the new website to young internet users.

The new campaign is dubbed ThinkuKnow and will be run by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP).

Kent Police’s PC Martin Carter said: “ThinkuKnow is an interactive package that will explore online experiences and offer vital safety advice and guidance to children, young people and their parents.

“Kent Police has already forged ahead with the work it is doing in the area of online abuse.

“Our involvement with this national campaign means we can ensure more of our staff and other professionals are equipped to help and guide young people who may be victims of cyber-bullying or online abuse.”
