Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has released seven players as he looks to re-shape his squad for next season’s League 1 challenge.

Topping the list are Nicky Southall (pictured right) and Andrew Crofts, along with striker Gary Mulligan, who between them have made around 600 Gillingham appearances.

Stimson has also decided against offering renewed terms to Sean Clohessy and first year professionals Chris Kiely, Tayler Thomas and Charlie Howard.

Southall, 37, has had three spells at the club and made 333 league appearances in that time. He helped the club to victory at Wembley in the 2000 play-off final and he made 39 appearances during the last season.

Chatham-born Crofts captained the side at the start of the season but fell out of favour and finished off the last campaign with Blue Square Premier side Wrexham.

Crofts (pictured right) started his career at Gillingham as an apprentice and appeared for the club around 200 times.

Mulligan made 74 league starts for the Gills and scored 14 goals.

He joined in January 2006, originally on loan from Sheffield United, before former manager Ronnie Jepson made the deal permanent in the following summer.

Clohessy was another Jepson signing but the right-back failed to make it into Stimson’s plans and he ended the season on loan at Salisbury.

Midfielder Howard made just two Gillingham appearances, while fellow first year pros Kiely and Thomas were non starters for the club.

Manager Stimson has offered new deals to John Nutter, Simon Royce and Andy Pugh.
