What a frustrating week!

After the Carling Cup win over Plymouth, we were buzzing for the Tranmere game and anyone who saw that match will have seen us totally dominate in terms of possession.

We felt in complete control of the game even when we were behind.

We came off the pitch gutted about the result. The lads at the back are disappointed when we let one goal in, let alone four, and we will be working hard to cut out the errors.

We have to take the positives, though, and should be confident that we have more than enough ability to win plenty of games at this level.

On Tuesday night, we went to Colchester and they had just lost their manager. That may have been unsettling but it could also have given them great motivation to prove they are good players regardless of who is manager.

Again we played well and up until just before half-time we were in complete control and could of been two or three goals up. Unfortunately, another error let them back in the game.

The second half was more even and they managed to steal a goal to win 2-1. Again we were frustrated we didn’t take at least a point from the game. When you think that they are currently the early leaders in this division, it gives us great confidence that we completely outplayed them for parts of the match.

We now face a difficult home game against Hartlepool. They are a hard-working side who had a good win against Coventry in the Carling Cup. It will be nice to play in front of the home fans again. It might not be a 5-0 like Swindon, we would be happy to take a 1-0 victory and get another three points on the board.

We’ve got a good draw for the next round of the Carling Cup with Blackburn Rovers. It will be great for all the boys to come up against top players and I’m sure we can give as good as we get, like we did against Aston Villa last season.

It’s a nice draw for me for two reasons, the first being that my family are Burnley fans and would love to see us turn Rovers over and also because I started my career there as an apprentice. I learnt a lot during my time there but it was disappointing not to have broken into the first team.

At the time there was Steve Harkness and Stig Inge Bjornebye playing left-back so getting in the reserves was hard enough let alone getting in the first team!
