Police have officially named the man who died after the tug boat he was on sank in the River Thames.

He has been confirmed as Darren Lacey from Gravesend.

The 40-year-old, who has a young family, was travelling on the Chiefton tug when it capsized as it towed a barge near Greenwich Pier on Friday.

Two other men were rescued from the water.

The Chiefton belongs to Palmers Marine Services, a family tugboat business based in Wharf Road, Gravesend.

Two investigations have also been launched by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and Maritime Coastguard Agency into why the boat overturned.

The Port of London Authority said it plans to bring the vessel up as soon as possible.
