Alistair Darling

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has been given a grilling unlike any other he has had before.

Three Kent students put their questions to Alistair Darling MP as part of the 10th edition of teenage magazine Oi!.

Margate born Habib Abdalla and Ashleigh Ellice, both 17, and 14-year-old Joshua Thomson, from Ramsgate, asked the Chancellor key questions young people want to know.

Why is the Government is borrowing so much to deal with the credit crunch? Why should young people get into debt going into higher education, when job prospects are so grim?

"People can get involved by just getting in touch. It’s a good way of young people getting involved in writing about the things that matter to them."

Oi is written by young journalists and distributed in secondary schools, libraries and other teen venues throughout Kent.

The Alistair Darling interview is in the magazine’s 10th issue sponsored by Kent Children’s Trust through Children & Young People’s plan in Kent – out now.

Published every term, each issue needs a new sponsor. The magazine is looking for a new sponsor for its next issue.
