The Portuguese Trampoline Development Squad arrived on Saturday for four days of training at the Rebound Centre, Black Lion Leisure Centre

Olympic hopefuls from Portugal 'bounced’ in to Medway at the weekend for the start of a four-day training camp.

The Portuguese trampoline development squad came on leaps - and bounds - during their time at the Jumpers Rebound Centre in Gillingham.

They are the latest international team to take advantage of the world-class facility, which regularly hosts gymnasts from Great Britain and as far a field as Australia, Japan and Canada.

The young gymnasts are being coached by Portuguese Olympic trampoline gymnastics coach Luis Nunes.

The visit is an opportunity for Medway to develop its relationship with Portugal and continue to host their gymnasts ahead of London 2012.

Jumpers managing director Martin Laws said: “We are delighted to be welcoming back our friends from Portugal for this week’s training camp.

"Jumpers is the only purpose-built full international specification trampolining centre in the UK and the largest purpose-built centre in the world, so it offers an unparalleled training venue for elite athletes.

“And with the creation of the new gymnastics centre at Medway Park, we will soon able to host elite training camps for all gymnastic disciplines on one site.”

Jumpers Rebound Centre is one of five Medway facilities to have been approved as a training venue for Olympic teams ahead of the London 2012 Games.

Medway Park, the new centre of sporting excellence being created on the site of the Black Lion leisure centre, has been approved to host 13 Olympic sports and eight Paralympic sports.

The Howard Table Tennis Centre, Medway Badminton Association Centre and Gillingham Football Club also feature in the official training camp guide for National Olympic Committees.
