The St George’s Day parade in Gravesend will be led by a town crier who will pave the way for the hundreds of school children through the town centre from St George’s church to the Civic Centre starting at 10am on Thursday, April 23.

Mark Taylor, a professional town crier, will also be hosting a competition for onlookers to try their hand at yelling public announcements. The winner will get a special prize.

A decibel reading machine will be used to determine the winner. The contest will take place in the town centre, at New Road, after the parade has finished, from around 11.30am to 2pm.

The parade is organised by the council in partnership with the North West Kent Racial Equality Council. This is the second year of the event.
