Wahab Riaz has already made a big impression on Kent’s season and the Pakistan Test star is determined to be a success with the county.

Left arm seamers have been few and far between over recent years at Canterbury.

Adam Ball and Ashley Shaw are the new kids on the block, Wayne Parnell was here two years ago, Alamgir Sheriyar, and Kristian Adams saw service before that.

Riaz met up with his new team-mates at Taunton on Friday and just 24 hours later he was joining Sam Northeast out in the middle at Cardiff to see the Spitfires home in a man-of-the-match performance against Glamorgan.

The 26-year-old said: "Making your debut for any team is always important. I wanted to perform well and hope to continue to do the same.

"I was positive we could win the game from the moment I went in because you only need two good overs in t20 cricket to put you back into the match. I love batting and hitting big sixes.

"I am here to win for Kent and will be focusing on each game to move us up the table and into the quarter and semi-finals."

Riaz looks set to leave Kent next month for a two-week stint in the Sri Lankan Premier League but is due back afterwards, staying at St Lawrence until August 20.

He said: "I have a commitment in Sri Lanka which I signed before coming to Kent but I am here to learn a lot by playing county cricket in England."
