Paul Foley resigns as manager of Ryman League Chatham Town

Chatham Town manager Paul Foley

Paul Foley has quit as manager of Chatham Town, with the club on the brink of finishing in the relegation zone in the Ryman League.

Chatham appear stranded in the bottom two of Division 1 South, eight points from safety with three games remaining, ahead of Saturday's home match with Walton Casuals.

But Foley, pictured, called time on his tenure at Maidstone Road on Thursday following a run of 12 games without a win, stretching back to the start of February.

Chatham had appeared on course for a comfortable mid-table finish but their alarming slump in form has seen them fall down the table.

While they are likely to finish in the bottom two, a return to the Kent League appears unlikely as changes elsewhere in the non-league pyramid are likely to earn them a reprieve.

Foley, who guided VCD to the Kent League title in 2009 and led them to eighth, replaced Alex O'Brien as Chatham boss last summer.

First-team coach Kevin Watson will take charge for the game against Walton Casuals.
