A man was taken to hospital after being struck by a car when it is believed he ran across a busy road.

The crash happened in Corporation Street, Rochester, at about 8.45pm yesterday.

The man, who has not been named, is thought to have run across the Strood-bound carriageway at the bottom of Star Hill.

Police and an ambulance crew were called to the scene, close to the Almon Place junction and diverted traffic around nearby Bardell Terrace.

The road was closed for around six hours.

The car involved ended up mounting the pavement and coming to a stop near Almon Place.

It is thought the man suffered significant injuries during the collision, but is said to now be in a stable condition in hospital.

It is believed he had run into the road due to a separate incident.

A Medway Police spokesman said: "A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and the road was closed.

"Officers diverted traffic along Bardell Terrace and the man was deemed in a stable condition at about 2am."

The road was fully reopened at 2.45am.
