Pedestrian dies after crash in Eddington Lane, Herne Bay

Flowers left at the scene in Eddington Lane, Herne Bay where a 46-year-old man died in an accident early on New Year's Day.

A pedestrian has died after a collision with a Transit van in Herne Bay on New Year's Day.

It happened as the 46-year-old man walked along Eddington Lane at around 1.10am.

His next of kin have been told.

Flowers have been left at the scene, opposite the Royal Mail sorting office, along with written tributes and empty beer cans.

A female pedestrian who was walking with the man at the time of the crash suffered minor injuries and was taken to the QEQM hospital in Margate, for treatment.

A spokesman for Kent Police said a man in his 20s from the local area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has now been released on bail while investigations continue.

The crash is being investigated by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Kent Police.
