An elderly man has appeared in court today charged with murdering his wife.

Alan Thomas, 79, was remanded in custody at Medway Magistrates' Court.

He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.

The body of 77-year-old Winifred Thomas was found at a house in Deanwood Drive, Parkwood, Rainham, on Sunday morning.

Thomas, who lived with is wife, was charged last night.
