A MAN posing as a gas official managed to con his way into the home of an 81-year-old woman.

Medway Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward in connection with the incident in Humber Crescent in Strood.

Police have issued an e-fit of a man they would like to interview in connection with the incident.

The offender called at the victim's home just after noon on Tuesday, May 12, and asked the pensioner if she had gas in her home. He explained there had been a gas leak on the top floor.

He then forced his way into the flat and then went into the woman's kitchen looking in various cupboards.

The bogus caller is described as about 5ft 6ins tall of medium build with very long blonde hair.

He was clean-shaven and also wore rimless glasses. He was wearing a florescent waist coat, a small chequered shirt and a sleeveless pullover.

Anyone who may have seen something or who may have information in connection with the incident should contact Medway Police on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
