An elderly man was viciously attacked as he made his way to his car after visiting a friend.

The 70-year-old was pushed to the ground and kicked in the head during an attempted robbery in Ashford.

He was left with a serious eye injury following the assault in Broadhurst Drive, Kennington.

The man was returning to his car at about 8.30pm last Tuesday after visiting a friend, when he was approached from behind and asked for money.

He then felt a blow to the back of his head and fell to the ground. He was then kicked several times in the face and head before the offender ran off towards Faversham Road.

DC Heather Moore, from Kent Police, said: "The gentleman has a serious injury, which will have a long-term effect on his life and all for nothing. No money was handed over.

"We are appealing for any witnesses or information - maybe they did not see the attempted robbery, but perhaps they saw a man running away near the junction of Broadhurst Drive and Faversham Road."

Anyone with information is asked to phone DC Moore on 101 - giving reference ZY/23499/12 - or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
