Police were called out after two pigs' heads were found in an alley near a church.

They were discovered near St Saviours Church at Canterbury Road, Folkestone, just after 8am yesterday.

Workers from Shepway District Council's street cleansing team arrived shortly afterwards to take them away.

Passer-by Lisa Challis said: "I saw them on my way to work. They were real pigs' heads. It wasn't a pretty sight."

A council spokesman said: "The heads were found in an alleyway near the church, but not on the church premises itself.

"They were not believed to be a decayed state but our workers disposed of them in the appropriate manner.

"As they were not specifically left on a property we believe they were dumped rather than left as a malicious gesture to anyone."

No one from the church was available for comment.
