Pilot in Vauxhall helicopter crash flew for air ambulance in Kent

A pilot killed in the helicopter crash in Vauxhall earlier today is believed to have flown air ambulance choppers in Kent.

Pete Barnes, 50, was one of two killed when the helicopter crashed into a crane on a building in central London.

The pilot, Captain Barnes, from charter firm Rotormotion, was killed, together with another on the ground, and a further 12 people were hurt.

Mr Barnes' LinkedIn profile states he was a very experienced pilot, who ferried celebrities and politions and piloted helicopters for action films including Die Another Day, Tomb Raider II and Saving Private Ryan.

It also states he was a contract pilot for the police and air ambulance services in places including Sussex, Surrey and Kent, and Yorkshire between 1997 and 2011.

Tributes to Mr Barnes included a colleague, who said his loss was "a great tragedy not only for the British aviation industry but for Rotormotion as well."
