Simon King has ended his loan spell at Plymouth early due to injury.

The defender (pictured) joined Gillingham’s League 2 rivals on loan to gain much-needed match fitness after spending almost two years on the sidelines.

He has been recovering from a crippling career-threatening ankle injury and looked on the road to recovery after making six appearances for Plymouth.

King missed Plymouth’s last two matches after rolling his other ankle and he returned to the Gills last week for treatment. His loan, which was due to expire on November 5, has now been terminated.

Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher told the Herald: "It’s disappointing for us and for him.

"He put in some good performances for us but, unfortunately, that’s the way football goes with injuries."

He wouldn’t have made a recovery in time to play again before his loan expires so is now back with the Gills.

King made three full appearance for League 2’s basement side and started all six games.

Can a fit Simon King still play a part for Gills this season? Comment below.
