POLICE in North Kent are appealing for information following an assault on a 26-year-old man in a Kent village.

Officers and an ambulance crew who were called to Red Street, Southfleet, near Gravesend, found the victim lying badly injured in the street.

Witnesses recall seeing two men approach the victim as they came out of a side street near the Black Lion public house.

The victim was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital where he was treated for bruises to his body, cuts to his face and a suspected broken nose and cheek-bone.

DC Alasdair Murray, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim suffered fairly extensive injuries and can remember very little about the attack. I would urge anyone who may have information to contact the police.”

The victim was wearing tracksuit bottoms and trainers and was walking down Red Street away from New Barn Road.
