A police officer was trapped in the crash wreckage and was airlifted to a London hospital after being cut free by firefighters.

His condition is described as serious but stable. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The police car was travelling towards Tunbridge Wells at around 2.10pm Monday when it collided with a Mitsubishi Colt.

Two stationary cars - a Peugeot 206 and a Peugeot 107 - were also involved and the police car also struck a brick wall.

The A26 was closed at the junctions with Pennington Road and Yew Tree Road.
