Police have praised the good behaviour of fans at Gillingham's FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

A Medway Police spokesman said there were no arrests among the 11,000-plus crowd at Priestfield.

Match commander Chief Insp Iain Mackenzie, said: “We worked closely with the staff at Gillingham Football Club to ensure the policing of this fixture was appropriate and effective.

“I am glad to say the role of the police on the day was made straightforward due to the good nature of both the Gillingham and Aston Villa fans.

“This was an enjoyable day for all concerned and although the Gills did not get the result they were hoping for, their fans were a credit to Gillingham and I look forward to working with the club in the future.”
