An investigation has been launched after a man plunged to his death from a bridge over one of the county's major roads.

Police say the incident happened on the A2 at Wincheap, Canterbury, at around 2pm Thursday. It forced the closure of the London-bound carriageway.

The man - who police say was aged 45 and local to the area - was hit by a car and pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was not injured.
