Kent Police has been recognised as one of the most gay-friendly employers in Britain.

The Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2009 ranked the force as fourth, leaping 22 places from last year.

It was said to have demonstrated a proactive lesbian, gay and bisexual support network, which meets regularly with the Chief Constable and other chief officers to discuss relevant issues.

The group also helps with recruitment and retention and is on hand to provide specialised knowledge in specific areas of policing, the report said.
