A Scotland Yard report into the arrest of the Ashford MP Damian Green is expected to be released within weeks amid claims that it could be heavily censored.

The report into the leak inquiry that led to the arrest was commissioned as part of an internal review that was set up in the wake of the MP’s arrest.

He was not charged in connection with any of the allegations about the leak of sensitive Home Office information after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) ruled out any prosecution.

During the investigation, his Westminster office was controversially searched as were his homes in west London and Charing.

Now it has been claimed that the Home Office, which was heavily criticised at the time, has asked for some parts of the report to be censored.

A Home Office spokesman said: "The department has raised a few minor factual inaccuracies with the report and has asked that these be corrected."

Mr Green, MP for Ashford, said: "I cannot comment on the review because I have given a legal undertaking that I am not going to talk about it until it comes out."

In June, the Kentish Express revealed how the leaks inquiry and police investigation cost the taxpayer £109,000.

The Metropolitan Police spent £66,000 on overtime and nearly £35,000 on legal advice during the course of its investigations, Mr Green, 53, called the sum a ‘colossal waste of taxpayers’ money’.
