Police at the South Eastern Hotel

Police were called to a pub yesterday after a man in his 50s died.

Forensics crews joined officers and paramedics at Strood's South Eastern Hotel, which closed a month ago, following reports of a sudden death.

Police are investigating the cause of the suspected heart attack in Station Road, which they were called to at 12.50pm.

Residents said the pub closed a month ago and there were 'Closed for Refurbishment' signs in the window yesterday.

Station Road resident John Gray, 80, said: "I've lived here since 1945. It used to be a nice pub but it's not my sort of place any more."
