POLICE are investigating the stabbing of an officer in Crayford, near Dartford, yesterday evening.

The policeman, alone on mobile patrol, was attacked on the Crayford Industrial Estate behind the Tower Retail Park at about 6.50pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The officer was injured after he stopped and spoke to two young men in the area, aged 19 to 20, who appeared to be acting suspiciously.’’

Police say the officer had smelt cannabis before one of the men stabbed him. Both suspects escaped by jumping over a fence alongside the River Cray near Crayford Way.

Police say the officer, who was taken to hospital, was not seriously injured.
