The Conservatives are heading for election victory tomorrow - but with a winning margin that could be narrower than anticipated.

That is according to a poll by YouGov which has suggested that Boris Johnson will get the keys to Downing Street with a majority of 28 - lower than other forecasts and indicating that the race has tightened ahead of the poll.

If the poll is accurate, it would mean the Conservatives cleaning up in the county with the exception of just one seat.

It suggests Labour is on course to retain Canterbury, which has been at the centre of an intense campaign battle. The poll puts Labour on 52% and the Conservatives on 40%.

Overall, YouGov puts the Conservatives on course to win 339 seats, up 21 seats compared to the last general election in 2017.

Labour is down 31 to 231 seats, SNP up six to 41 seats, Liberal Democrats up three to 15 seats and Plaid Cymru and Greens unchanged on four seats and one seat, respectively.

The poll comes as the party leaders make a final push for votes ahead of election day.

YouGov says the margin of error built in to its analysis means it remains possible that there may still be a hung parliament or alternatively a solid Tory majority.
