A GARDENER who loved telling jokes has died in an accident in the county.

Andrew Moyse, 48, of Sandgate, died after being hit by a car while crossing the A259 on his way to work last Friday afternoon.

Mr Moyse, who lived in the Nelson Park Garden care home in Sandgate, had caught the bus to the Romney Warren Visitor Centre on the outskirts of New Romney, where he worked with other people with special needs.

He was struck by a Peugeot car and taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford, where he later died.

Michael Price, his supervisor, said: "Andrew loved telling us jokes and would have a laugh with anyone. We will miss him.

"He enjoyed all aspects of gardening, but his favourite job was cutting the grass."

The road was closed until just after 3.30pm. Flowers have been laid at the scene of the accident.
