Powerboat grand prix was a winner

THOUSANDS flocked the third Ramsgate Powerboat Grand Prix over the weekend. with more than 60 racers competing in the Royal Harbour event.

Land-based family entertainment was doubled this year with stalls, street music, and carnival floats. The food and drink village was also extended to include a continental market.

The event, is one of five around the UK that comprise the British National Championship. Ramsgate is the only venue in the South East.

Entertainment included acrobats, fire eaters, trapeze artists, magicians and German and Cajun bands.

On Saturday night a spectacular firework display enthralled spectators at the harbour, and the salsa band Merengada gave a lively performance.

On Sunday, Carnival Collective brought a Brazilian flavour to the event with a 30-piece percussion band, five-piece brass section and flamboyant dancers.

Thanet councillor, Dennis Hart, cabinet member with responsibility for maritime said: "This year’s Ramsgate Powerboat Grand Prix was a great success and everyone I spoke to over the weekend was very positive about the event.

"I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard beforehand and all those who gave up their weekend to ensure the event was such a success. Without their help, the Ramsgate Powerboat Grand Prix could not have gone ahead."
