A relic of the Britain’s early aerial defences is shown being “defaced” in a music video released last week.

Just when Dungeness thought it was safe from music promos, The Prodigy chose the location to promote their latest tune Invaders Must Die.

The black and white promo features Doctor Who and Kidulthood star Noel Clarke wandering about the area imposing the Prodigy’s ant logo on various things he finds, including old fishermen’s equipment and most notably the sound mirrors.

The ‘vandalism’, using spray paint, is not done for real but superimposed and Clarke is later shown being arrested.

The concrete sound mirrors were invented to give advance warning of German bombers, as they magnified the drone of the aeroplanes’ engines. They were usurped by radar before they could prove their worth but remain an imposing memorial.

The promo for Invaders Must Die also features Clarke standing on Red Sands fort out in the Thames Estuary off Whitstable, complete with the giant ant logo. It has not proved popular on the Internet, with comments including “lame” and “boring”, although the track itself has attracted favourable comment.

Among other musicians to have taken advantage of Dungeness’s otherworldly feel are Roots Manuva, whose album cover Run, Come Save Me, featured the area, albeit obscurely, on its cover, and the Lighthouse Family, who used the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway’s level crossing lights for an album.
