A woman has been nominated for a Pride in Medway award for making a big success of her business in Chatham.

Desiree Nurse has been put forward for a community involvement award by her friend of 15 years, Steph Peck.

Desiree, 32, owns Cleopatra's' Beauti Spot in The Trafalgar Centre in Chatham High Street.

Desiree opened the shop, which sells hair extensions and wigs, 18 months ago.

Steph, 53, of Boundary Road, Chatham, said: "Desiree had no prior business experience but she has created a thriving business of her own.

"She has got a real niche in the market and she is providing a service to the local Afro-Caribbean community.

"She also gives young people a chance to learn by offering work experience placements to school students."
