A rally and protest march is being held in Dover this morning, opposing the port privatisation proposals and supporting workers' rights.

It is being organised by the Unite union as part of an international day of action, co-ordinated by the International Transport Federation.

The rally is calling for the standardisation of terms and conditions across the EU for workers involved in transport logistics and for dock workers.

Marchers are gathering in Snargate Street, Dover, and will then march across the A20 onto the seafront.

We need a first class sea port like Dover to be in public hands. There is simply too much at stake to leave the running of this vital link to Europe in the hands of those who will milk this national treasure for profits."
