Margate Carnival Group’s annual raft race takes to the waters on Sunday at 2.30pm.

The popular summer event starts at the beach behind the Nayland Rock Hotel, Westbrook, and crosses the water to the Harbour slipway.

Racers can enter in three classes – the professionals, fun raft for men and fun raft for the ladies – and there are strict guidelines for those taking part.

Carnival secretary Shirley Tomlinson said: “This has become a popular event in the summer, and we like everybody to enjoy themselves, but competitors must be sensible.”
