A police inspector found guilty of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident has been sacked from the force.

Dione Mayfield, from Rainham, was found guilty of driving her car into a vehicle belonging to a mum who was dropping her children off at school.

Mayfield was suspended from duty from the time of the offence on September 25 last year to her conviction in May this year.

Following sentencing Kent Police’s Professional Standards Department began disciplinary proceedings against her.

Mayfield was working at Kent Police headquarters in Maidstone as a temporary inspector before the incident, and was on annual leave when she committed the offences.

She was found guilty of driving her Ford Focus down Bloors Lane in Rainham and not stopping when she hit a car belonging to mum Jodie Roddie.

Mayfield was also found guilty of driving while her alcohol level was above the legal limit. She had 103 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.
