People will be able to find out about the proposed Broad Oak reservoir at a special presentation.

An exhibition is being staged by South East Water to present its plans and explain how the reservoir and its lengthy construction might affect local people.

The company says the new water source is needed to supply the increasing demand anticipated over the next 20 years due to the building of thousands of new homes.

The reservoir will largely be contained in the Sarre Penn valley but only a handful of properties, already owned by the company, will be directly affected.

A reservoir in Broad Oak has been on the backburner for many years but South East Water believes it now has to commit to the project.

Asset director Paul Seeley said: “The stark fact is that we will need up to 135 million extra litres of water a day to meet demand by 2035.”

The presentation is being held at the aBode Hotel in Canterbury between 2pm and 8pm on Monday, June 16.
