KENT Police have identified a young road sweeper killed while picking up litter from a grass verge.

Damian Griffiths, 20, died after a crash involving the refuse truck from which he was working.

The young man, who lived in Northview, Swanley, was working at East Peckham, near Maidstone, on March 2, when the tragedy happened.

He was on the busy dual carriageway when the collision occurred between his refuse truck and a heavy goods vehicle. Both drivers were shocked but unhurt. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

The death comes nearly two years after refuse collector Stephen Bennett, of Dunton Green, near Sevenoaks, died after being crushed between two refuse trucks in New Ash Green, near Dartford.
