Paige Brown, four, died in an accident at her Hawkinge home on New Year's Day

TRAFFIC stopped and a Kent village fell silent as four-year-old Paige Brown’s family and friends said goodbye to her at her funeral.

The youngster died on New Year’s Day in an accident at her home.

On Friday, fog and driving rain greeted the funeral procession from Paige’s home in Blenheim Drive, Hawkinge near Folkestone, to St Luke’s Church, along the main road.

Many waiting in cars as the procession passed were in tears, as the white, horse-drawn hearse made its way through the village.

The service was conducted by the Rev Rob Grinsell and featured many tributes from Paige’s family and her godparents.

Paige's favourite song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, was sung, and there were many stories about her cheekiness, kindness and generosity.

Her distraught mum and dad Lou Ford and Phil Brown led the mourners.

Paige was killed when she became entangled in her hairband, having hooked it round a teddy hammock in her bedroom.

Despite the efforts of police and the air ambulance, which landed on a field opposite her home, she could not be revived.

A trust is being set up in Paige's memory, which has already raised hundreds of pounds, to be donated to the Kent Air Ambulance, which flew to help her on the day of her death.
