DODGY dealers can now be shopped online as part of the police crackdown on stolen goods. Medway's Radium project is making people aware of how easy it is to become a victim of dealers selling stolen goods.

Now handing information over to police has been made simpler with the addition of an e-mail web page to the existing Radium website, www.radium.org.uk. Project manager Det Sgt Mike Coltham said he was hoping this would encourage more people to come forward.

He said: "We are giving the public as many avenues as we can to contact the police with information on the stolen goods market. And at the same time we are moving with the times. We are hoping to get the public to assist us in reducing crime."

The Shop A Dodgy Dealer campaign (SADD) was launched on Wednesday at Radium headquarters in Rochester police station. All e-mails received by the police will be treated in the strictest confidence and web users do not have to hand over their personal details.

"We have already successfully closed some of the avenues traditionally used by thieves and burglars to peddle stolen goods, for example second-hand shops," said Det Sgt Coltham.
