Pupils at a north Kent primary school have missed out on their sports day this year - in case they fall over and hurt themselves.

Bean Primary School cancelled the event because its field, dry from lack of rain, was deemed a health and safety risk.

Pupils were due to compete in games and races in the grounds of the School Lane primary but were left disappointed when teachers broke the news that the event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 22, was being called off.

A school spokesman said: "We wouldn't want a child to fall over and hurt themselves. Unfortunately the British weather is very unpredictable. It's completely out of our hands."

Common sense campaigners have called the decision a "totally disproportionate response" to a "tiny risk".

What do you think? Is this another case of health and safety going over the top? Leave your comments below.
