Scooters of all shapes, sizes and colours descended on Sheppey for the second annual Sid James Scooter Rally.

The rally was held at the weekend at the Sheppey Sports Club, off Queenborough Road, Halfway, and scooter riders from all over the country came along to take part.

There was lots of music from a number of live bands, including Island group The Leas.

About 150 bikes and scooters also took part in a scooter show, with prizes for the best bikes in a number of categories.

As well as trophies being awarded for the best Lambretta, best Vespa and best customised bike, there was also a prize for the scooter that had travelled furthest – the winner had come all the way from Newcastle.

The rally was organised by members of the Sid James Scooter Club, Paul Wilson and Paul Fox, after their similar event last year was a success.

Mr Wilson said: “It went really well, it was a very good day, we are really pleased and the weather held out for us too.

“We had a ride out around the Island with about 45 scooters – a lot of the people who came weren’t locals so it was great to show them the Island. I’d like to say a big thank you to Steve Manning and all his staff at the Sheppey Sports Club and to all the other members of the scooter club who missed out on things over the weekend as they were working.”

On top of all things scooter that were going on, Paul Wilson had a full chest wax to raise money for the Joshua Goodwin Asthma Foundation raising more than £500.

Mr Wilson added: “The wax did hurt a little bit, and I ended up having my eyebrows done as well.

“It’s worth it though – a little bit of pain for such a worthy cause.”
