A TEENAGE lad was punched and kicked by a gang of yobs he was trying to escape from.

The 17-year-old, who has not been named, was with his friends in Forge Lane, Bredhurst, near Gillingham, between 11pm and 11.30pm on Thursday, August 11, when they realised they were being chased by a baying mob.

The teenager and his friends tried to outrun the other gang and ran in the direction of the Bell pub.

As they reached the junction with The Street, they could still hear the mob shouting and swearing at them and most of them managed to run fast enough to get away and to the safety of the pub, but one was left behind.

It is thought the gang made off in two vehicles, one green and one white.

The teenager suffered cuts and bruises to his head and body during the assault.

The offenders are described as white young men, between 16 and 20.

Anyone with any information about this incident, particularly the offenders, should contact Maidstone and Malling Police on 01622 608182, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111- this call is free and confidential.

Four people were arrested but have now been bailed, pending further enquiries.
