A main road into Maidstone was closed for several hours as police investigated a serious accident.

Sittingbourne Road was closed in both directions following the incident, which happened in the early hours of this morning.

The air ambulance was sent to the scene, landing on a field at a sports club off Recreation Close.

Police have confirmed a woman is in a life-threatening condition.
