Confirmation that a fourth park and ride site could be built at Thanington has outraged local residents.

Community leaders have vowed to fight any plan to concrete over their recreation ground.

City council leader John Gilbey confirmed this week that officers are looking into Thanington as an alternative to the existing Wincheap and planned Harbledown sites.

Thanington Residents’ Association chairman Joanne Ryan said: “I am gobsmacked. We will take it to the courts if we have to."

The council already faces a legal fight from Harbledown residents opposed to its preferred plan to build the park and ride on an orchard.
