Singer's crash landing ends with hospital visit

An energetic Big Weekend performance by the Pigeon Detectives resulted in a trip to Maidstone Hospital’s A&E for front man Matt Bowman.

Bowman suffered a strained leg muscle, during his band’s performance on the main stage in front of thousands on Sunday.

He struggled on to complete the set, but was taken by St John Ambulance from Mote Park to Maidstone Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in his native Leeds, to see a specialist.

It is not the first time Bowman has injured himself on stage - in 2007 he fractured his heel bone after jumping off a set of speakers at Manchester Academy.

Ironically the title of the band’s latest single, released on Monday, is called This is an Emergency.

Bowman was one of 150 casualties treated by St John Ambulance teams at the two-day free Radio 1 event.
