Shane Byrne thrilled his home fans after grabbing both race wins at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

The two-time British Superbike champion had earlier claimed his first pole position of the season before doubling up his win tally for the season.

Byrne’s two victories moved the Sittingbourne racer up to within 11 points of championship leader Tommy Hill and just as importantly he now has just three points less than the same rider in the podium credits standings.

Kawasaki rider Byrne (pictured celebrating his double win) held off the challenge from Noriyuki Haga and then Josh Brookes to claim this third victory of the season.

Byrne then wrapped his up maiden double of the season as he once again held off Brookes.

The 35-year-old, who last time out at Oulton Park had seen Hill claim all three wins, was delighted to be top dog again.

He said: "The team have done a great job since Oulton Park last time out, and so have I.

"Every single gym session, every run I have been doing I have been pushing as hard as I can just to better myself.

"The team have done their bit as well because the bike is fast and we have definitely got to the bottom of some of the problems we have had with it.

"We have just been working really hard at getting a bit more speed and power out of the corners because otherwise we have not had that many problems with the power.

"I’d like to think we have never been off track. I have been riding as hard as I possibly can – that is what I am paid to do.

"I am hoping now that we can continue this momentum. It’s easy for people to say, ‘oh it’s Brands, he always wins at Brands’ but there is never an easy win and Josh (Brookes) kept me honest there that’s for sure."

There were also Kent winners in the support classes, with Lydd’s Bradley Ray (pictured) claiming victory in the British Motostar Championship. In the National Superstock 600 there was a win for Dover’s Jake Dixon on his Yamaha.
