Small school gains big reputation

THE smallest primary school in Thanet has been named as one of the best in the country.

Monkton Primary School received an “outstanding” result at its last OFSTED inspection and has been singled out for praise by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools.

The 90-pupil school is one of only three primary schools in Kent to receive the praise and the only one in the east of the county. Inspectors said it provides a “warm and friendly, yet hardworking environment” for all its pupils.

Head teacher Janet Graham said she was delighted the school had been recognised and it was a credit to the four teachers and five support staff who worked with her.

She added: “We only have 90 children in three classes, so we aim to know all of the children as individuals, and to recognise their strengths and needs.”
