Gillingham are anxiously awaiting news from Swindon to see if Saturday’s League 1 game can go ahead.

Swindon have called in contractors to clear snow from their County Ground pitch after leaving it open to the elements over the past week.

Heavy machinery is to be tested on the Wiltshire club's training ground and if that’s successful Swindon boss Danny Wilson is confident it will be game on.

"The snow is the biggest problem because underneath that the pitch is perfect," said Wilson, on Swindon’s official website.

"We just need to check that this machine doesn’t do too much damage to the pitch. If we can get it off then the game will definitely be on."

Sports Reporter Ned Payne at the Swindon Advertiser is less confident after more snowfall over the Swindon area.

He said: "We’ve had snowfall overnight and it’s carried on in the morning.

"We’ve got about four inches on the ground and that could leave the match at a high level of doubt."

The Gills have seen their last three fixtures postponed because of the weather with games against Accrington, twice, and Tranmere called off.
