Kent was covered in a white blanket on Sunday as a cold snap brought a shower of April snow.

The snow began falling at around 8.30am across Kent, quickly whiting over areas such as the M2 and Medway, and coastal areas.

Sunday morning motorists travelled cautiously in the tricky conditions and gritters were called out the make the roads safer.

By 10am, a layer of snow covered roads such as the A2 just south-east of Canterbury and heavy snowfall occurred in nearby villages such as Denton.

Some areas at the eastern end of the county, such as Deal, were largely untouched.

The snow fall has ceased by the time Monday commuters took to the roads, but weather forecasters warn that could be on the way.

Kent Police said they were monitoring the situation and that conditions were safe to drive in, provided motorists took care.

Insp Nigel Shambler, at Kent Police Headquarters, said on Sunday: "We are advising (motorists) to drive carefully and responsibly in these conditions."
