Spitfire to mark Battle anniversary over Kent skies

A Spitfire fighter plane will be displaying its aerial prowess in the skies over Hawkinge this weekend.

The Kent Battle of Britain Museum Trust Ltd and The Kent Spitfire are pleased to announce that the Spirit of Kent will be doing some aerobatics above the Kent Battle of Britain Museum at around 3pm this Sunday.

The Spitfire will be carrying out an eight-minute display to commemorate Battle of Britain Day.

It commemorates the day of fiercest fighting in the air during the Battle, in 1940. Although the fighting took place on September 15, the display is being brought forward to give more people the chance to watch it.

The Spirit of Kent, a restored Spitfire, is flown at displays in memory of No 131 ‘County of Kent’ Squadron, a Squadron of Spitfires bought by donations from the people of Kent. Spitfire TA805 originally flew from RAF Hawkinge during September and October 1945..
