Thanet's longest running summer attraction again attracted thousands of fun-seekers to the seaside.

Broadstairs Water Gala celebrated its 120th anniversary with a busy programme of events in and around the town’s harbour and clifftop Victoria Promenade.

King Nepture rose from the sea at Viking Bay to declare proceedings open and bless the event, which included swimming races, volley ball, craft and trade stalls, punch and judy, competitions and teddy bears picnic.

A family fun fair on the clifftop added to the occasion, while music at the bandstand in the evening from rock’n’rollers This Little Girl kept the audience on their toes for a couple of hours until the showpiece 15 minute firework display provided a colourful finale.

kmfm radio presenter Johnny Lewis took part in the day, helping the RNLI promote water safety and an awareness of the charity’s work.

He sailed in the Ramsgate lifeboat from its home port along the coast to Broadstairs where visitors were invited on board to have a closer look at how the craft works.

He said: “It was a great family day out with lots of attractions.

“The RNLI was really pleased with the interest shown in its work – and the crew even let me take the helm of the inshore lifeboat for the journey home.”

The kmfm radio ground crew were out and about during the day as well.
