POLICE are appealing for witnesses after three men were seriously assaulted in Northumberland Heath.

One was stabbed in the stomach and two others received facial injuries and bruising after they were attacked by a gang.

The incident happened on Saturday, March 29 at 2.10am in Northumberland Way after the men had left the Belmont Road Snooker Club.

A small dark car carrying at least four other men pulled alongside the trio and an argument began. The attackers then got out of the car and assaulted the men.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt Graham Scott said: “This incident could have been far worse and the main victim was lucky not to have lost his life following the attack. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything or has any information that may lead to the identity of the attackers. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

The London Ambulance Service treated a 29-year-old man for facial injuries and a stab wound to the stomach and a 31 and 32-year-old from Erith for facial injuries and brusing.

The stab victim was rushed to hospital and underwent an operation on Monday, March 31, to repair damage to an internal organ. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The suspects are white males aged between 20 and 23.
